It’s Tuesday afternoon, shortly after lunch. At about this time you can typically find me playing pickleball at my local church, Woodside Bible Church, in Troy, Michigan. Today, however, I’m squeezing this blog post in between a round of miniature golf and poolside bingo at Westgate Resorts. As you have probably guessed, we are in sunny Florida – where the temperatures the last two days have been in the low 80’s – providing a much needed respite from the arctic blast currently engulfing the Great Lakes state of Michigan.
Introducing Pickleball to Westgate’s Permanent Residents and Other Local VIP’s
This is our first time visiting Westgate Resorts – and it is our hope to make new “friends” and introduce the sport of pickleball to some of Westgate’s permanent “residents” as well as other local VIP’s in the Orlando area. If you haven’t done so already, you may want to “like” our page on Facebook so you can see all the new pickleball friends that we make (many of whom I’m sure you already know) over the next week or two. Here you can see that we already made some new friends after our first day.
Tennis Courts – Would Convert Nicely into Pickleball Courts!
There are several beautiful tennis courts in the complex – many of which could be converted nicely into pickleball courts!

One set of courts did, indeed, already have permanent pickleball lines painted on. As we finished our round of miniature golf this morning, it was great to see several different couples taking advantage of these make-shift “pickleball” courts. The sport is definitely growing and thriving.
Later this week or next we plan to visit the Villages, a retirement community located approximately 90 minutes northwest of Westgate Resorts. We have heard much about this retirement community – and the 100+ pickleball courts – that we wanted to check it out for ourselves and provide personal insight into the community in future blog posts. We will also certainly be sharing images from our travels to the Villages on Facebook and Twitter as well.
That’s it for now. Stay warm – and look forward to seeing you on the pickleball courts!
