The first weekend in September — Ahhh, perfect. Televised on ESPN, the world’s best tennis players were playing early round US Open matches at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. On the other side of the country — in Brigham City, Utah — the world’s best pickleball players were battling it out in the 2016 Pickleball Tournament of Champions. And thanks to Facebook Live video streaming technology — as well as the USAPA and PickleballTournaments.com — anyone with an internet connection was able to view pickleball played at the highest level.
So with the television remote in one-hand and a smart phone/tablet in the other, the perfect weekend began. Shown below are the Facebook Live videos of several pickleball matches. Viewing the videos will give you a flavor of the power, precision and finesse involved in pickleball. Watch — and listen carefully. Melissa McCurley and Dave Weinbach — both of whom are tremendous pickleball players — offer expert advice, strategy and commentary. It’s instructional video at its finest!
